The Eureka Tornadoes Cross Country team is off to a strong start this season, with Lady Tornado seniors Rose Buck and Britta Mongeau each claiming hardware at the first two meets of the season.
Eureka traveled to Clearwater on Thursday, Sept. 4, with Buck claiming 1st and Mongeau placing 5th in the open 5K girls race. Buck ran the race with a time of 20:41.11. Mongeau completed the race with a time of 22:39.44. Also claiming hardware was 8th grader Sebastian Guillaume, who claimed 16th in the one mile race.
Also representing Eureka at Clearwater were: freshmen/ sophomore girls 2 mile: Amorette Guillaume, 36th, 19:44.07; and Reata Bogle, 40th, 22:35.33; freshmen/sophomore boys 2 mile run: Tavin Austin, 31st, 14:52.39; junior/senior boys 2 mile run: Luc Guillaume, 22nd, 14:05.04; Open 5k Boys: Jean-Philippe Guillaume, 51st, 22:28.81; 7th grade boys 1 mile run: Blake Wells, 64th, 8:16.69; and Owen Combs, 69th, 8:23.15; 8th grade boys 2 Mile run: Sebastian Guillaume, 16th, 13:52.88; and Henry Lindamood, 60th, 18:19.13.
Eureka also competed at Girard on Thursday, Sept. 11, where Lady Tornado Buck claimed 1st and Mongeau placed 4th in the high school girls division and S. Guillaume placed 4th, Wells was 5th and Combs was 9th in the junior high contest. Complete results from the Girard meet were unavailable at the time of publication.
The Tornadoes will travel to Central of Burden this Thursday, Sept. 18. Races are slated to begin at 3 p.m.
