West Elk Football Fell To Oxford Wildcats

The West Elk Patriots struggled against the Wildcats of Oxford last Friday, Sept. 12, falling 6-58.

“Hats off to Oxford, they came in and whipped us pretty good,” stated Head Coach Ian Denton. “We failed to capitalize on a few opportunities we had, and the game got away from us. We are struggling right now,” he continued. “We are trying to find our identity; what kind of football team are we going to be.” He continued, “A couple season ending injuries have really affected our depth moving forward.

Some young guys are going to have to grow up quick. I know our boys will continue to work hard and do everything they can to be successful. It’s our job to put them in a position to succeed,” he stated.

Patriot Jaxson Bogdahn recorded 2 complete passes, totaling 13 yards. Bogdahn connected with freshman Ryatt Griesel on both passes.

West Elk tallied 25 carries for 37 yards, with Trace Toon having 17 carries for 28 yards. Also rushing for the Patriots were Garett Usry, 3-3; Ryatt Griesel, 2-2, and Guy Denton and Welch Murphy both 1-2.

Defensively, the Patriots recorded 11 total tackles, 8 solo and 3 assists. Leading the way for the Patriots were Roman Moreno 3, Matt Dean and Trace Toon each with 2 and Usry, Jared Tucker and Brycen Hobbs all with 2.

The Patriots will travel to Udall this Friday. “Our goal is to go compete for all 4 quarters and secure our first victory,” stated Coach Denton.
