The Elk County Commission meets weekly on Mondays at 1 p.m. The following report was generated from the approved minutes of the Aug. 25 meeting, which were approved at a recent meeting.
The Elk County Commission held their regular meeting on Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. The Aug. 11 regular meeting and Aug. 13 primary canvass meeting minutes were approved as presented.
During public forum, commissioners addressed a concern about property taxes increasing by 27%. Commissioners clarified that property taxes will increase however; the increase will not be 27%. A vicious dog was also discussed.
Diane Cucar with Community Development reported that she received a bid for $2,000 to repair one of the bathrooms at the 300 N. Plum property. She also noted that the invoice for the barn removal at 1285 Evergreen has been received and will be paid on the next bill cycle.
Treasurer Rachel Ware stated the county tax sale will be held on Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Cox Building in Howard. Pre-registration will be from 8 a.m. on Sept. 2 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 15.
Commissioners also heard updates from EMS, Public Works, Register of Deeds and Rural Fire.
Warrants totaling $71,654.56 and abatements were approved as presented.
The commission held three executive sessions for a total of 25 minutes. The first session was for 10 minutes for non-elected personnel to discuss employee performance to include County Counselor Paul Dean; the second session was for 10 minutes for non-elected personnel to discuss employee performance with EMS Director Gillian Beaumont and Dean. The last session was for 5 minutes for legal issues with Dean. After returning to open meeting, no decisions were made for any session.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:23 p.m. The next meeting of the Elk County Commission will be held on Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.
