As nice as the fall-like weather has been, warmer temperatures are back later this week. The temps could stay like they’ve been throughout the fall and winter months. We’ve been having some really pretty sunsets lately, also. The sky has had such vivid colors.

What does “librocubicularist” mean? And are you one?

I know there are many things to like about fall and winter, but what are some of your favorite things? Some of mine are: Hot cocoa, soups and casseroles. And speaking of hot cocoa/chocolate what is your favorite way to fix it? I like to make it from scratch with powdered cocoa, sugar, 1/2 gallon milk, pinch of salt and teaspoon of vanilla.

When I want just a cup of cocoa I use the 1 1/2 instant packets and heat milk in the microwave for three minutes. It’s not as good a scratch cocoa, but it is still really good.

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers. Wade is still in Burlington. I think he will be coming back home soon. He is getting around really good.

We offer our sympathy to all who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace. One family is getting some much needed closure this week as Technical sergeant Willis “Jim” Hall’s remains are coming home from Vietnam. He was an uncle to Carlene Hall and Shirley Fishel.

Answer: Someone who reads in bed. Is that you?

The moon, either last Thursday or Friday, was sure a really dark red as it was rising. Did you get to see it? There was a full lunar eclipse Sunday night that was blood red, but it wasn’t visible for us. It could be seen in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

The Toronto Booster Club’s Farmer’s Market was held Saturday morning. There weren’t very many vendors. Along with the few vendors Saturday morning, Harley Wayne provided some musical entertainment for all. The Boosters are going to have at least one more Saturday, Oct. 4, which is the same day as the Toronto Alumni Banquet. The Market will be 7-11 a.m., the Alumni Banquet is from noon until 2 p.m. with doors opening at the gym at 11 a.m.. Later that evening, there will be a trivia night at Getty’s 76 bar beginning at 5 p.m.

I thought it was pretty cool when they had one last year the first Saturday in December. There were lots of vendors at the gym for that one and lots and lots of people showed up. Many buying gifts for Christmas. It would be nice to have one again this year.

If you’ve been noticing activity on the south side of the gym, that is the construction crew working on rebuilding the bathrooms. They have completed some dirt work and some plumbing. The labor for this job is all volunteer.

Our librarian, Jessie Hoag, was recently presented the “Award of Excellence for Library Director.” She has done so much good for, and is still doing good for our local library.

Quote: “My doctor told me that jogging could add years to my life. I think he was right. I feel 10 years older already.” - Milton Berle Intended For Last Week Here it is September. What wonderful temperatures we've been having. At a time of year when it's usually in the triple digits, its been in the 70s. Does anyone remember having an August as cool as what we just had?

What common item is considered bad luck to be given as a wedding gift?

Remember when couples would get chivalreed? People would go into the couples house and short sheet the beds, remove labels on canned goods, grooms would push their brides down Main Street in a wheelbarrow, and many other harmless, silly things? I wonder when and why all that came to an end? I can remember that happening to a couple of newlyweds when I was a little kid.

We’ve been getting quite a bit of rain lately. I finally got a rain gauge and it had two inches in it Sunday. I think the best rain gauge would be one of those electronic ones that automatically dumps the rain, but the one I got has a solar light, a hummingbird and a flower. Sunday night it looked neat as the light was reflecting off the water and made it look like it had two lights.

This Saturday is the new Farmer's Market, sponsored by the Toronto Booster Club. If you have any kind of goodies you want to sell, contact the Booster Club by calling or texting 620-344-2680. The time is 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Main Street.

Answer: Knives. Marriage ceremonies are steeped in history, and with so many cultures, religions, regions, and couples adding their own customs into the mix, it should come as no surprise that wedding-related traditions and superstitions have emerged over the years. According to folklore, a knife signifies a broken relationship and is bad luck to give as a wedding present. If knives are on your registry, just give the gift giver a penny. That way, it's considered a purchase.

Vicky and Chad Altis won the yard of the month in the Woodson County Chamber's yard of the month contest. When you're out driving around, drive by their place on south Jackson. They always have a nice neat yard with all kinds of cool things to look at.

V. Altis is also a seasonal decorater. The four seasons and most holidays are celebrated in their yard art. It's fun watching to see what she comes up with next. There are many yards around town that look really nice this time of year with the flowers and lawn decor. Just take a drive around town.
