Wilma Jean Dean

Wilma Jean Dean, age 92, passed away August 30, 2025. She was born at home in Greenwood County, Kansas on February 15, 1933 to Loren and Lena Hurt. Wilma married her husband, Walter Lee Dean, on January 15, 1956. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved to cook, sew, quilt, fish and play all types of games. As a young girl in Kansas, she had no electricity at home until 1946 and remembered rationing during World War II. She was a tomboy, loved being outside and rode her horse to school in a one room country school house.

Although she lived in Kansas most of her life, in 2011 she moved to Corpus Christi, Texas to be closer to her two daughters, Glenda and Paula. She loved living at Brookdale and seeing the Corpus Christi Bay every day.

Wilma is preceded in death by her son, Michael Eugene Bunyard.

Wilma is survived by her husband, Walter Lee Dean; her two daughters, Glenda Zinsitz and husband Douglas of Bandera, TX; Paula Armstrong and husband Frank of Corpus Christi, TX; five grandchildren, Sarah Jones and husband Whit of Hebbronville, TX; Matthew Bunyard and wife Erin of Denver, CO; John Bunyard of Chicago, IL; Eric Zinsitz and wife Priscilla of McKenney, TX; Laura Casteel and husband J.D. of Smithville, TX; and seven great-grandchildren, Cecilia, Cinco and Billy Jones; Tanner & Jace Zinsitz; Jerimiah Casteel and Finn Bunyard.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Brookdale. A memorial has been established with the Corpus Christi First United Methodist Church. Donations can be sent to: First United Methodist Church, 900 S Shoreline Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX 78401.
