The Growing Greenwood Fund, an affiliate of the Emporia Community Foundation (ECF), announced the recipient of this year’s grant. The award winner was Hamilton USD 390 in support of their after-school ROAR program which strives to grow the sport of gravel cycling through bike safety education and the purchase of gravel bikes.
Hamilton teacher, Maureen Smith, shared her excitement and gratitude but stating, “We are excited to use the funds to purchase bikes for our students. This will be such a fun opportunity to introduce them to biking on our beautiful gravel roads. Who knows, maybe one day they’ll be ready to take on the challenge of the Unbound Gravel race!
The Growing Greenwood Fund was created in 2010 by local residents looking to fund projects for the betterment of the community. The fund provides financial support for activities and projects in the areas of education, community development, health care, economic development, and recreation which promote quality of life for citizens in the Greenwood County service region.
The Growing Greenwood Committee meets throughout the year and awards grants once a year in late summer or early fall. Agencies that meet the requirements are encouraged to apply by July 1 each year for consideration through the competitive grant process.
