The Lady Tornado high school volleyball team kicked off their 2025 season last week with two nights of action.
Eureka first hosted Olpe and Wichita Defenders on Tuesday, Sept. 2, where the varsity ladies claimed a win over Wichita Defenders, in two sets, 25-13 and 25-21. The Tornadoes tallied 6 aces with Ellianna Coulter leading with 3. Madelyn Miller, Arabella Shepherd and Kinlee Sanchez all had 1. Hannah Perrier led the team in attacks with 6 of their 17 kills for the match. Coulter had 4, Miller and Alaina Westerman each with 2 and Addison Westerman, Shepherd and Raylee Boles all with 1. Miller recorded the solo block for the game. The team worked together to record 29 digs for the match with Miller and Boles each having 5, Shepherd and Sanchez each with 4, Maela Neill, Addison Westerman, Lydia Mason and Alaina Westerman all with 2 and Brooklyn Ogden, Coulter and Perrier all with 1.
The Lady Tornadoes’ junior varsity (JV) defeated the Defenders, 25-13 and 25-17.
Against Olpe, Eureka fell 22-25 and 11-25. The team recorded 4 aces, 9 kills, 4 blocks, 8 assists and 36 digs.
In JV action, the Lady Tornadoes lost 21-25 and 24-26 and the C-team lost in three, 13-25, 25-21 and 8-15.
On Thursday, Sept. 4, the Tornadoes again hosted action, this time against Conway Springs and Flinthills.
Eureka varsity went 0-2 for the evening. Against Conway Springs, the Lady Tornadoes fell 27-25, 19-25 and 17-25. Eureka tallied 5 aces, 29 kills, 28 assists and 62 digs.
The Lady Tornado JV team fell 12-25 in both sets.
Against Flinthills, the Lady Tornado varsity team battled in 3 sets, 2025, 25-18 and 19-25. Eureka tallied 10 aces, 19 kills, 19 assists and 57 digs.
Eureka’s JV team fell to the Mustangs, 11-25 and 21-25.
The Tornadoes are scheduled to travel to Coffeyville this Thursday, Sept. 11 for triangular action against Coffeyville and Neodesha, at 5 p.m. Eureka will host their annual tournament this Saturday, Sept. 13.
