The Madison City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the Aug. 18 meeting, which were approved at a recent meeting.
The Madison City Council held their regular meeting on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.
The agenda was approved with the addition of a 5-minute executive session for legal. The council also approved the Aug. 11 regular meeting minutes and the accounts payable.
Open Forum discussion was held.
City Clerk Alice Grimm presented the council with the sealed bids for the property at 719 W. Lincoln. It was noted that more items need to be removed on the property, so the council did not open bids and will ask for new bids, with the additional items added, be returned before the next council meeting on Sept. 2.
New Cereal Malt Beverage (CMB) guidelines were discussed. It was noted that the individual requesting the CMB sends the request to the state and the council votes on the license.
The council approved to send pre-violation letters for North 1st St., 928 S. 3rd St., 520 S. Mulberry and to send the pre-violation letter for the property at 414 Cherry to a different person as the owner is deceased.
Multiple reports and concerns were discussed by the council during Governing Body Reports.
The Madison City Council held two Executive Sessions. The first was for 10-minutes to discuss non-elected personnel, with no decisions being made after returning to open meeting, and the second for 5-minutes for legal to discuss a contract. After returning to open session, the council approved to sign the contract with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department to house people that fail to appear for court for city violations, are in contempt of court or have been sentenced by a judge. (No subject was given for the first executive session which is a violation of the Kansas Open Meetings Act, which could result in a fine of up to $500 per commissioner per Executive Session violation.)
The next meeting of the Madison City Council will be held on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
