The Madison/Virgil USD 386 Board of Education met on Monday Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. for their regular meeting. The agenda, July meeting minutes and the June special meeting minutes were approved as presented.
The board also approved the Business by Consent, Current Accounts payable totaling $356,716.02, Treasurer’s Report, the Activity Funds Report, the Elementary and Jr/ Sr High School Student Handbooks, selling of furnace filters that will not be used, and to set the RNR hearing for Sep. 8 at 6:40 p.m. with the budget hearing to follow at 6:50 p.m.
Information items discussed were the boiler inspection update, Parents as Teachers and the Jr/Sr high updated teacher schedule.
Updates were reported for the following items: Madison Elementary activities, Food Service, Jr/Sr High upcoming activities and transportation.
The board approved to purchase two passenger vehicles for student transportation, not to exceed $70,000.
The board held a 30-minute executive session with the board and administration present to discuss personnel matters of non-elected personnel. (No subject was given) After returning to open meeting, the following were approved: hire Ashley Redeker as the District Testing Coordinator; hire Macy Smith as 9-12 Math/Computer Science Teacher for the 2025-26 school year; hire Ryan Wolgram as Assistant HS Football Coach for the 2025-26 school year; hire Dallas Thompson as Weights Coach for the 202526 school year; hire Smith as Assistant HS Girls Basketball Coach for the 2025-26 school year; accept the resignation of Mark Adams as Transportation Director pending proper replacement and to accept the resignation of Sarah Luthi as Assistant JH Girls Basketball Coach.
The board held another executive session for 5 minutes with the Board and Superintendent to discuss the teacher contract pursuant to negotiation. (No subject was given. Violations of the Kansas Open Meetings Act could result in a fine of up to $500 per commissioner/ board member per Executive Session violation.) After returning to open meeting, the board approved the 2025-26 Negotiated Agreement as presented.
The next meeting of the Madison/Virgil USD 286 Board of Education will be held on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.
