The Greenwood County Commission held a routine weekly meeting on Monday, Aug. 18.
During the Road and Bridge report, the commission discussed potential signage options on 140th Street, east of P Road. Commissioner Mac Obourn asked if adding a third stop sign to the intersection of 140th and Jefferson Streets would help matters. As the discussion continued, the commission believed the best option would be for the property owner to look into placing “Children At Play” signs on their property. It was noted that “child at play” signs are not a regulatory sign and can be purchased/installed by property owners, as long as they are placed on their property right-ofways.
Road and Bridge Supervisor Allen Greenwood shared that crews have been busy with several projects in the county and stated that he hopes to consult with Ryan Harman, in the coming weeks and work on numbers for various costs of equipment and future projects. Greenwood believed that Harman would then present his findings to the commission the following week.
The commission then revisited the discussion on the bridge south of 400 Highway on BB75, which they had approved not to go through mitigation and repair on their own. Road and Bridge Administrative Assistant Kassadie Lazar, however, reported to the commission on Monday of this week that FEMA had reached back out to the county, noting that if the county moved forward with the mitigation process, FEMA would reimburse the county $13,000 for the Cross engineering plans. The commission approved going through mitigation. The Aug. 11 meeting minutes; special payables totaling $2,400.62; regular payables totaling $277,450.42; payroll totaling $163,785.46; and the agreement regarding Water Street maintenance with the City of Severy were approved as presented. With the agreement being approved, the county gives the City of Severy full responsibility of maintaining Water Street, in Severy.
A $1.50 raise was approved for Greenwood County Clerk employee Ashley Nichols, following her 90-day review.
Greenwood County resident Kurly Hebb addressed the commission regarding a fence issue near 2775 50th Street, in Fall River. After a brief discussion, the commission suggested he request a fence viewing, which was made and scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m.
A 15-minute executive session was held for legal matters with Greenwood and County Counselor Paul Dean. No action was taken. Greenwood County EMS Director Brian Mongeau brought up the ongoing Granite invoices. It was noted that the contract will not be renewed and the bills will cease once the contract has been completed.
Counselor Dean noted that he expects the county tax sale to be held in the first half of October. He noted that once the county receives judgment on the listing, a complete tax sale will be published in the county newspapers, including the date and location of the sale.
The next weekly meeting is slated for Monday, Aug. 25, at 9 a.m.
