The Madison City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the July 21 meeting, which were approved at a recent meeting.
The Madison City Council held their regular meeting on July 21 at 7:03 p.m. Bob Kimberlin led the Pledge of Allegiance. The council approved the agenda, the July 7 and 9 meeting minutes and the Accounts Payable.
During Open Forum, the council discussed a land donation on Southwest Blvd and resident Kimberlin expressed concerns about the high grass west of Dollar General.
County Clerk Alice Grimm told the council that she went with Kansas Security to the Lincoln Ball Field to look at installing cameras. Kansas Security will be submitting a bid. Grimm also noted that she contacted MT Networks in regards to internet service at the ball field. It was noted that internet was quoted at $95 per month. Also discussed was a pre-violation letter at 428 W. Davis in regards to dangerous conditions.
Grimm presented the yearly dues for the League of Kansas Municipalities. The council approved to pay the dues in the amount of $410.71.
The council was presented an updated violation tracking sheet. Multiple violations were discussed including no progress being made, no response to some of the pre-violation letters, a drainage issue being presented for a pre-violation and landowners discussing progress being made. Clerk Grimm noted that court will be held on Aug. 8.
During council reports, discussion was held regarding a possible pre-violation letter on McKinley. Other discussion included raising the prices of code violations; prohibiting new mobile homes being moved in and revising the ordinance that requires the removal of inhabitable mobile homes.
Other items discussed were: Faran Watts with Megawatts Electric putting in two more lines on the marquee; moving the flag pole after the marquee is completed; Watts working with Evergy to reset a pole at the old water plant; winterization of the pool after it closes in August and discussion about sandblasting and painting the bathrooms this fall.
Mayor Paul Dean presented the council with possibility of having a local coop agreement with the county. No decision was made.
The council held a 10-minute executive session for non-elected personnel. After returning to open session, no decision was made. (No subject was given for the session which is a requirement of the Kansas Open Meetings Act, which requires both a justification and subject.)
The next meeting of the Madison City Council will be held on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.
