After pleading no contest to interference with law enforcement and theft, local thrift store owner Kimberly L. Gates was sentenced to 60-days in the county jail, followed by 12-months post release supervision and probation. Gates, along with co-defendant Johnathan Smith were also ordered to pay a combined $44,612 in restitution plus various court fees. Smith was also sentenced to probation/post release supervision with credit being given for time already served.
The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office was notified of the burglary on Oct. 14, 2024. According to the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office, the burglary included a long list of household items and antiques that were taken from a residence.
On Oct. 17, 2024, a large quantity of the stolen items were recovered at Kimmy’s Closet, a local thrift store at 1501 E. River St., in Eureka.
The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office executed two search warrants on Oct. 29, 2024 for additional stolen items at Kimmy’s Closet and 606 N. Greenwood in Eureka.
Smith was arrested on Oct. 29, 2024 for Burglary, Conspiracy to commit theft, Interference with law enforcement x2, Unlawful possession of a controlled substance, Theft and Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He was sentenced for the counts of Burglary and Theft, with the other counts being dismissed through plea negotiations.
Gates was arrested on Nov. 12, 2024 for Interference with law enforcement x2, Burglary, Conspiracy to commit theft, Theft, Unlawful possession of a controlled substance and Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. She was sentenced for the two counts, Interference with law enforce- ment and theft, with the other five being dismissed through plea negotiations.
