This summer during June and July, guest speakers have been “coloring our world” for the Storytime Kids. Twenty- two kids (ages birth to 12) signed up for the Hamilton Summer Learning Program and have colored our world in many ways by reading books, attending story time and listening to “mainly” Greenwood County professionals 1. Our Heroes (Sheriff's Office, Hamilton Fire Chief and Hamilton Firefighter Volunteers) 2. Photography (Keila Sherman) 3. Food (Alisha Fisher, Family and Community Wellness Agent) 4. Music (Jeff Davidson) 5. Arts-painting (Montana Crane) 6. Nature (Marsha Evenson) 7. Dancing (Jane Hon) 8. Storytelling (Priscilla Howe) Some of the guests read a book to the children on Friday Mornings at 11:30 a.m.
They would take time to explain what they do at work or as a hobby and the importance of color in things that you see in our world- such as helping protect others and being real heroes, capturing on film some of our memories of graduations, weddings, raising our children, family reunions, etc., eating healthy diets and understanding not just the taste of our foods, but also the nutritional value in the rainbow of colorful fruits and veggies, dancing and singing to music to remind us to keep moving and keep our bodies healthy, using our talents to draw, paint, and create our own individual art projects, 'bees in nature' which pollinate the beautiful flowers, and storytelling which can be made up on the spur of the moment or from our lives so that others will carry with them moments of the past in a lively manner.
Before the kids went home they had some crafts and refreshments.
