The Racing Wranglers 4-H Club claimed the top spot in this year’s Greenwood County Fair Herdsmanship Contest, earning themselves not only recognition for their efforts but also a well-deserved pizza party to celebrate their achievement.
The Herdsmanship Contest is a time-honored tradition that challenges local 4-H Clubs and FFA Chapters to keep their livestock areas clean, organized and welcoming to fairgoers. Youth are evaluated on their attention to cleanliness, signage, stall and pen upkeep, as well as teamwork and overall presentation.
“This contest is about more than just tidiness,” said Ben Sims, 4-H Youth Development Agent for K-State Research and Extension in Greenwood County. “It teaches responsibility, pride in their work, and the importance of presenting the livestock industry in a positive light to the public.”
The Racing Wranglers stood out among the participating clubs, consistently demonstrating strong work ethic, cooperation and attention to detail throughout the fair.
The pizza party prize was sponsored to help reward and encourage continued participation in the Herdsmanship Contest. Support from local businesses and community members makes awards like this possible and ensures that these valuable learning experiences remain a highlight of the Greenwood County Fair.
