A landmark in Eureka, the Veterans Memorial Wall on Main Street, is in urgent need of restoration. Over the years, time and weather have taken their toll on the wall — shifting and separating the stones that honor the brave men and women who served our country.
Koup Family Funeral Home, long-time stewards of the memorial, has taken steps to secure a repair bid. The estimated cost to properly remove, dowel, and reset the stones with a water barrier and stone adhesive is nearly $12,000. Unfortunately, the original Memorial Fund currently holds less than a quarter of that amount.
The community is now being asked to come together in support of this important cause. Donations are being accepted under the name: Greenwood County All Veterans Memorial, which can be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045 In addition, a fundraiser will be held at Pizza Hut in Eureka on Wednesday, Aug. 13 to help raise the necessary funds.
