Hasn’t the weather been wonderful?! I can’t believe it’s been cool enough to open windows and doors the last week of July and first week of August, but sadly that’s not going to last. By the time you read this the temperature will be back up and possibly a triple digit day or two.

After getting the July utility bill, I’m definitely happy for the cooler weather!

Who is the only person named “Oscar” to win an Oscar?

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.

We offer our sympathy to the families of William “Bill” Humphrey and Nina Urton. We offer our sympathy to all others who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.

Work was delayed again on Cedar Creek bridge, due to all the rain we received recently. Work will start back up again soon, if the rains hold off. There was only a 10% chance of isolated showers the last couple times it rained.

My great nephew Jace Cummings and his teammates from Pittsburg won the state of Kansas 12 & under Little League championship and went to Indiana for Regional competition. Sadly, the boys got beat by Webb City, Mo. in the first round and lost their second game.

Jace is the grandson of my older brother, Bob Cummings and his wife, Nita, who live in Chanute and the son of my nephew, Rob Cummings and his wife, Abby of Pittsburg and great-grandson of Robert Cummings.

Answer: Lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II is the only person named Oscar to win an “Oscar” at the Academy Awards. Oscar Hammerstein was perhaps the most influential lyricist of the American theater. Major musicals for which he wrote the lyrics include Showboat, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. Hammerstein won two Oscar awards in the Best Original Song category, one for “The Last Time I Saw Paris” from Lady Be Good in 1941, and a second award for “It Might as Well Be Spring” from State Fair in 1945.

Be sure to stay hydrated this next week. We are supposed to hit triple digits.
