When Clark's Farm & Home was first listed for sale, the idea of owning it seemed like a lighthearted dream, just a fun 'what if?' conversation. But that joke quickly turned into a serious discussion between Eureka alum Haylee (Boulanger) Gibb, and her husband Cade. What would the community do if Clark’s closed? For many local businesses — including the one where Cade worked — Clark’s is not just a hardware store, but a lifeline. With that in mind, what began as a joke became a mission to preserve a community staple.

Established in 1945 by Ken and Flo Clark, Clark’s Farm & Home has served the people of Chase County for over 80 years. In 1988, it passed to its second owners, Jim and Glenda Fink, who continued to grow and nurture the business. As of Aug. 1, the store welcomed its third set of owners, who are honored to carry the Clark legacy into the future.

“Some locals joke ‘if Clark’s doesn’t have it.. you don’t need it’ and wow, if you take a walk around the store.. that is true,” stated H. Gibb. “We have a little bit of everything. Not finding what you are looking for? We also have two lofts, an upstairs, a downstairs, a whole different building across the street, and several outbuildings. I am sure you can find something you need,” she continued.

While the Gibbs admit they’re still getting their bearings, they’re diving in headfirst with energy and enthusiasm. One of their top priorities is implementing a point-ofsale system to streamline inventory management. Currently, it’s all done with notepads and memory — a charming but challenging system when juggling multiple employees and a vast inventory.

“Our goal is simple,” they said. “We never want to run out of anything our customers need.”

Above all, Haylee and Cade are filled with gratitude for the support they’ve already received from the Chase County community. Day one as owners was a great one — and they’re looking forward to many more.

Clark’s Farm & Home is located at 4th and Cottonwood in Strong City. They’re open Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
