August is here already and we’re near the end of the ‘Dog days of summer.’ This time of year is in reference to Sirius ‘the dog star,’ not the heat, although it is typically the hottest time of year. July 3 to August 11 is when Sirius is closest to the sun and rises and sets with the sun.

Because the star is so bright, ancient Romans believed it gave off heat and added to the Sun’s warmth, accounting for the long stretch of sultry weather. Sirius is the brightest star visible and is part of the constellation ‘Canis Major, the Greater Dog.’

Whatever the reason for the heat, I’ll be glad when cooler days get here. How about you? Not cold, but temperatures in the 70s to low 80s.

What Zodiac sign is associated with the 60s hippie movement?

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities; Hello, also, to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.

We offer our sympathy to all who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.

The Toronto Booster Club is thinking about starting up the Farmer’s Market again. Many people have wondered why it ended when it did, especially since gardens were just starting to produce produce. I don’t know the reason behind it stopping, but I think it would be great if it got started back up.

Answer: The zodiac sign tied to the 1960s hippie movement is Aquarius, symbolizing innovation, rebellion, and humanitarian ideals. The era was often dubbed the “Age of Aquarius,” popularized by the 1969 musical Hair and its hit song “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In.” Astrologically, Aquarius represents freedom, social progress, and breaking away from tradition—all key values of the counterculture. Though not everyone involved in the movement was born under this sign, Aquarius became a cultural emblem of peace and love.

The lawns are still nice and green thanks to the rain we keep getting. More rain is expected this week along with the high temperatures and even higher heat indices.

The east side of Cedar Creek bridge is gone now; just a big gaping hole. They will start putting in the new 1 x 3.25 $25.19 1x4

this week. It seems like progress is moving faster now that they have one side of the bridge done.

I heard on the news the other night that snakes seem to be more plentiful right now due to the high water. Them and many other creatures have had to seek higher ground which means they are in peoples yards now. They were urging people to be extremely cautious when outside.

Check under cushions on your outdoor furniture before sitting down. Be careful when picking up stuff in your yard, a snake could easily be under anything and everything. ER visits due to snake bites are up in the four state area. Please be careful when out working or playing in your yard.

Commodities will be coming back to Yates Center in August. Watch for more information in the Yates Center News and/or this column. There will be some major changes to the way it was done before.
