Several Crews Responded To Early Morning Fire Last Friday
Two Businesses On North Wabash Received Extensive Damage During Early Morning Blaze

Two businesses on North Wabash, in Howard, received damages during an early morning fire on Friday, July 25, during a thunderstorm.

According to the Elk County Rural Fire Department, the Howard Fire Department was dispatched to the structure fire at 12:53 a.m., in the 100 block of North Wabash. Assistance from Moline Fire Department and Elk County Rural Fire was quickly requested. Severy Fire crews also responded to assist.

Upon arrival, heavy flames were present in the back of the C&O Custom Woodworking building. The structure was deemed unstable so a defensive position was taken. The fire was contained to the building of origin however, adjacent buildings suffered from light to heavy smoke and water damage.

that the C&O Custom Woodworking shop was a total loss and Local Threads, a t-shirt shop, suffered heavy smoke and water damage.
