Greenwood County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a semi rollover incident Friday morning, July 18, on Kansas Highway 99, just south of 70th Street. The incident involved a semi-truck hauling heavy machinery, which ultimately led to a partial highway shutdown and extensive recovery efforts.
According to authorities, the semi-truck belonged to Combined Transport, a freight company based out of Central Point, Ore. The vehicle was being operated by Alvin Caldwell of Grand Junction, Colo. Caldwell was traveling southbound on the highway when the rear passenger- side wheels of the trailer veered off the roadway.
The trailer, which was carrying a large piece of industrial machinery, continued into the ditch and eventually separated from the semi tractor. The trailer then rolled, coming to rest on its side.
Caldwell managed to keep the semi tractor upright and on the roadway.
No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
Multiple tow companies were called to the scene to assist with the recovery and removal of the damaged equipment and trailer. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) also responded, assisting with traffic control and conducting repairs to sections of the roadway that sustained damage during the incident.
Traffic along the affected portion of Highway 99 was delayed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow.
The heavy machinery remained in the ditch over the weekend with crews planning to remove the equipment earlier this week.
