The Elk County Commission meets weekly on Mondays at 1 p.m. The following report was generated from the approved minutes of the June 30 meeting minutes, which were approved at a recent meeting.
The regular meeting of the Elk County Commission was called to order on June 30 at 1 p.m. The minutes of the June 9 regular meeting were approved. The commission also approved Payroll in the amount of $272,754.23 and Warrants in the amount of $308,628.61.
Erica Cordell with Emergency Management reported on the Healthcare Coalition meeting that she attended in Chanute on June 24. It was noted that Elk Valley and West Elk Schools have received the Stop The Bleed wall kits that were provided through the Homeland Security Council. Cordell noted the county received the LEPC 2024 compliance approval letter and the next LEPC meeting will be held on July 17. Cordell stated the Regional Table Top would be on July 9 in Chanute.
The commissioners approved the Kimble Mapping Agreement in the amount of $6,000 that was presented by Deputy Appraiser Chris Miller. It was noted that the Sheriff will pay $1,500 and the Appraiser’s Office will pay $4,500.
Other department reports were given for EMS, Register of Deeds, Community Development and County Clerk.
County Clerk Kerry Harrod presented the County Department Budget Requests for 2026.
Other items discussed were concerns with the condition of Road 31 due to the railroad; issues with the recycling program and possible solutions and an article that Shirley Black would like published in the newspaper and on the county website.
Three executive sessions were held for a total of 18 minutes. The first session was for non-elected personnel to discuss wages with EMS Director Gillian Beaumont and County Counselor Paul Dean. After returning to open session, the commissioners approved to increase Taylor Dory’s wages from $13.50 to $16.97 per hour. The second executive session was for 10-minutes for legal issues to discuss rights-ofway with Public Works Supervisor Don Sanders and Dean. No action was taken after returning to open session. The last executive session was for 3 minutes for non-elected personnel to discuss wages with County Treasurer Rachel Ware and Dean. After returning to open meeting, the commissioners approved to increase wages for Kristina Kraft from $18.58 to $18.95 per hour for her annual review.
