Greenwood County Treasurer Donna Olson was recognized on Monday, July 14, for her 40 years of service for the county. Greenwood County Commissioner Preston Evenson presented her with a plaque for her years of service. Olson’s final day is slated for this Friday, July 18. Stacy Pearse, who was on the ticket last November, will take over the role following her official appointment by Governor Laura Kelly.
The remainder of the short 30-minute weekly meeting was standard, as the commission approved the July 7 meeting minutes and the special payables totaling $2,059.50, as presented. The county reviewed the treasurer’s report.
Greenwood County Health Officer/Administrator Jayme Lewis presented a contract for the medical director position. Lewis noted that the annual contract needed a signature and was identical to previous years. Commission chair Mac Obourn signed the agreement, renewing the services with Dr. Mark Basham, M.D. The contract noted the following duties: Act as liaison between the local health department and medical community; Provide general medical information needed by the staff to carry out their responsibilities; Attend semi-annual Board of Health meetings when possible and have periodic conferences with the Administrator; and Advise the Board of Health and the Administrator regarding public health programs and needs within the community. Through this contract, Dr. Basham will not be responsible for individual patient care. Through the contract, Dr. Basham will be paid $100/ hour for his services.
Road and Bridge Administrative Assistant Kassie Lazar gave a brief report. She noted that she had spoken with Severy City Clerk Tessa Riggs regarding 700 feet of Water Street in Severy that both entities currently share. Lazar stated that the City of Severy was willing to take full responsibility of the remaining portion and claim it was their own; rather than share it 50/50. County Counselor Paul Dean planned to draft an agreement. It was noted that the city has been maintaining the roadway and will continue to do. Discussion was also held regarding the repair of a wingwall to a bridge south of 400 Highway on BB75 road. The commission opted to repair the wingwall and not go through mitigation for this specific bridge. Discussion was also held regarding the clean-out of bridges and culverts throughout the county, with the commission noting that crews should spend additional time and ensure they are fully cleaned out before moving it. Commissioners Roy Ballard and Judd Everitt shared that they had looked at bridges in the northern part of the county, near EE Road, and suggested obtaining a bid for repairs through Ramsey Concrete.
The commission meets weekly on Monday mornings, with the next slated meeting planned for Monday, July 21, at 9 a.m.
