The Madison City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the June 17 meeting, which were approved during their most recent meeting on July 7.
The Madison City Council opened their regular meeting on June 17 at 7 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance, approval of the agenda and approving the June 2 regular meeting minutes and minutes of the special meeting held on June 9.
The council also approved Accounts Payable in the amount of $17,554.50.
During the Clerk’s and Treasurer’s Reports, City Clerk Alice Grimm informed the council that Coffelt will start on the marquee on June 23, weather permitting. Other discussion included a quote for one camera at the Lincoln ball field in the amount of $3,383.82; availability of vacant city lots; violation tracking sheet and putting out bids for demolition at 212 W. Oak.
Grimm presented the council with a trash contract for out-of-town residents. After discussion, the council approved the contract with a yearly base rate of $225 or $18.75 per month. The council approved to close the city office for a Kansas Rural Webinar on lead copper updates and other rule requirements. This will provide employees who attend 5 hours of continuing education points. The council also approved to send previolation letters for 818 S. 4th, 405 Hillside, 601 W. Sherman, 202 Easy St, 308 N. 4th and 222 McKinley.
During council reports, it was noted that the electricity did not work properly during Madison Days. Councilman Tony Fankhauser stated that after Faran Watts with Megawatts Electric got the electricity fixed, he informed Fankhauser that all electrical boxes need replaced.
A bid from JHE Masonry for McKinley Street in the amount of $86,481.20 was presented. The bid was for replacing half of McKinley Street. After discussion, no decision was made.
Other items discussed were: the tank for the water plant is done and ready to be installed; tree trimming on Standpipe and McKinley; patching of McCurry and Standpipe; the window at 300 W. Main Street was repaired by JCE; Megawatts Electric will be doing some electric jobs around town and repairs to a truck.
In Old Business, discussion was held regarding the trailer located at Main and 1st and also regarding the roof at 210 W. Main that holds water and is leaking to the other building. The council requested a pre-violation letter be sent.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:48 p.m. to allow the council to look at property around Madison to take measurements and collect more information.
The next meeting of the Madison City Council will be held on July 21 at 7 p.m.
