Howard City Council

The Howard City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the June 16 meeting, which were approved during their most recent meeting on June 7.

Mayor Richard Clark called the Howard City Council meeting to order on June 16, with Council members Martin Hunter, Shilo Crupper, Gary Harrod, Jerrad Pope and Derek Cookson present. Also present were Jared Myers and City Clerk Joanna Hunter.

The council approved the June 2 meeting minutes as presented.

Myers requested approval to remove the sidewalk on his property along Washington and Oak streets, noting that the sidewalk is broken and a tripping hazard and has not been utilized by the public for some time as the neighboring properties do not have sidewalks. The council approved the request.

The council also approved city bills totaling $11,747.62 and approved disbursement of Library portion of the tax disbursement received in March and in June for a total of $16,971.72, leaving $3,784.49 remaining in the Library budget.

It was approved by the council to put rip-rap in the ditch at the northwest corner of Highway 99 and Randolph Street, from the highway west to the old nursing home drive entrance.

Other discussion included: Declining a service plan contract for Microcomm telemetry system; Request to add gravel on alley in 200 N block between Cedar and Oak; Mosquitoes in pooled water causing a resident issues, council member Cookson will check into it and report at next meeting; 2025 street resurfacing and maintenance to begin next week, weather permitting; Water tower draining in preparation for interior washing.

The meeting adjourned at 7:41 p.m.

The council’s next meeting will be held on Monday, July 21, at 7:30 p.m., at the Howard City Office, located at 110 N. Pine, in Howard.
