Severy City Council

The Severy City Council meets on the first Monday of each month. The following report was generated from the unofficial minutes, which are subject to council approval.

Mayor Donna Wiss called the June 2 meeting of the Severy City Council to order at 7:08 p.m. The pledge of Allegiance was cited and roll called.

The council approved the May 5 meeting minutes, bills and the treasurer’s report, as presented.

Water Superintendent Paul Schmidt noted issues with the water plant over the weekend. A tank cleaning was planned for June 3. Schmidt reported there have been several burial cremations in the last month and the road grader is ready to be picked up for repair.

City Attorney William Mc-Clendon stated that he has been waiting on the county to assist with the history of the old railroad right away on the vacant lots. McClendon reported that the county has now decided they are not willing to help with any of the research, and it will be left to the city to do their own. Clerk Tessa Riggs reported that she has a file from years ago pertaining to the railroad right way that she would like McClendon to read before the City moves forward.

Clerk Riggs noted that the

month of May has been very exhausting with the new utility billing software. She stated she might need to go to some excel classes for her to do the reports. Treasurer Madelyn McClendon offered to assist Clerk Riggs.

Clerk Riggs mentioned that the Patriot Ball Club was asking for a donation. City Attorney McClendon suggested that if someone is wanting a donation, maybe they should send a representative to request the donation instead of sending a letter.

Clerk Riggs also noted that the City received the 2024 Consumer Confidence Report and there were no violations.

Clerk Riggs reported that it is time to think about budget items for 2026. The only suggestion was to maybe consider switching utility billing software programs if the current one is not going to work.

The council held a onehour executive session for legal matters with Attoney W. McClendon. No action was taken after returning to open session.

The council approved to adopt the policy and expectation letter drafted by Attorney McClendon and add it in the city handbook.

The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.

The council’s next meeting is Monday, July 7, at 7 p.m.
