Madison City Council

The Madison City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the June 2 meeting, which were approved during their most recent meeting on June 16.

The Madison City Council held their regular meeting on June 2 at 7:01 p.m. After the Pledge of Allegiance, the council approved the agenda, May 22 meeting minutes, accounts payable and water adjustments.

After discussing confusion on the demolition bid in the amount of $1,970 for the property at 103 Garfield, the council approved a new bid from Tim Leiser in the amount of $6,500 with the city providing the dumpster for the demolition. The council also approved a bid from Leiser in the amount of $6,400 for the property at 201 S. 5th to include everything and to leave the cave.

City Clerk Alice Grimm presented the council with the May timesheets. Grimm also talked to the council about putting up a camera at the Lincoln ballfield due to damage occurring and a missing doorknob. The council agreed to look into bids for a camera and a security lock. Grimm and the council also discussed the county tipping fees being billed to the city; trucks not following the truck route and ideas on how to guide them to the truck route; spending limits for the pool and getting pictures of 601 W. Sherman, 212 Easy St. and the duplexes on 4th Street to send courtesy letters.

Other reports were given regarding asphalt and bids on McKinley; culverts and the tank has been built and is waiting for installation.

Discussion was also held in regards to the dumpster in the back of City Hall. In previous years, citizens would pay a yearly fee and were able to use the dumpster with a key. Council member Evan Casey stated he asked Grimm and she could find no record. Mayor Paul Dean suggested a 6-yard dumpster and Casey suggested creating a simple contract. No decisions were made.

The council approved to reimburse council member Tony Fankhauser for items at the pool in the amount of $246.13.

Old Business discussion included the following items: follow-up with Coffelt in regards to the marquee installation; Hatch renewal; charges for vacant properties in regards to water meters; updates on the purchase and cleanup of the property at 719 W. Lincoln; KMIT discussion; tree trimming and various items needing done and water plant updates.

The council held two executive sessions, one for 10-minutes and the other for 5-minutes for personnel to include the city clerk. After returning to open session, no decisions were made. (No subject was given for either session.)

The council approved to hold a special meeting on June 16 at 7 p.m. for review of job descriptions for city employees.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:41 p.m.

Special Meeting

The Madison City Council also held a special meeting on June 9 to review job descriptions for the Deputy Clerk position. After discussion, the board decided to proceed with the Inman job description with modifications to fit the council’s needs; however; no official motion to approve was made.

Also during the meeting, other topics that were not on the special meeting agenda were discussed regarding trash, water, deposits, violations, vacant notices, 1-hour alternating lunches and pre-violation letters.
