To Compete At KJHSRA Finals Rodeo Next Week

Flinthills Middle School sixth grader Mayley Decker will represent the area next week at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR) in Des Moines, Iowa, next week, June 2228.

Decker, who qualified for the event as a fifth grader, qualified for the event at the Kansas Junior High School Rodeo Association (KJHSRA) State Finals, held at the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane, May 22-24.

Decker secured her spot with a short go win at State Finals in Barrel Racing, placing her third for the year-end standings. Her horse “Bob” was also named the AQHA Horse of the Year. Decker not only competes in barrel racing with Bob, but pole bending and goat tying.

Decker will compete in barrels on Monday, June 23 and Friday, June 27, with the hopes of making it to the top 20 and qualify for the short go round.

The NJHFR, open for contestants in fifth-eighth grades, will be televised on the Cowboy Channel.

Decker is the daughter of Justin and Shelly Decker of Reece.
