The Madison City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the May 6 meeting, which were approved during their most recent meeting on May 22.
The Madison City Council held their regular meeting on May 22 at 7 p.m. The agenda, May 6 meeting minutes, and Accounts Payable were approved. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Discussions was held regarding the demolition of 201 S. 5th Street. Three bids were opened: Lieser Excavating LLC for $6,400; Knobloch Excavating for $9,600 and Jackson Family L.P. for $4,000 with the cost to vary depending on actual cost of materials. After discussion, the council decided to vote on bids at the next meeting.
The council approved a donation of $100 to the Lamont Wesley Church for the annual school supply drive. The council also requested pre-violation letters be sent to 212 Easy St. for weeds and to 601 W. Sherman St. for weeds and junk.
Discussion was also held regarding purchasing a new culvert and closing on the property at 719 W. Lincoln.
The council approved the following items: breakdown of estimated hours for the KDOT project, Jayhawk Software renewal, fireworks permit for Chubby Foods, violation abatements for 319 SW Blvd. and purchasing a refrigerator up to $1,000 and $200 for shelves for the pool.
The following items were discussed during the Governing Body Reports: the house located at 325 S. 2nd St.; Vacant Property Fees; floats for the docks; CCLIP update; Camp Host; Water Plant update; new fire hydrant installation and pool repair updates.
The following street repairs were discussed: patch work on McCurry St by SW Blvd and S. 3rd St.; resurfacing on McCurry St., Hillside Dr., S. 4th St. in front of the elementary school and Easy St. to S. 4th St. and chip seal on Sherman St.
The council discussed possibly working on street repairs after the project with KDOT is finished. Councilman Evan Casey stated that he is not opposed to getting a bond so that the city is able to do the street repairs and possibly some water lines.
A 10-minute executive session was held to discuss non-elected personnel with no subject given. After returning to open meeting, no decisions were made.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the Madison City Council will be held on June 16 at 7 p.m.
