Madison City Council

The Madison City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the May 6 meeting, which were approved during their most recent meeting on May 20.

The Madison City Council held their regular meeting on May 6 at 7 p.m. The agenda, April 21 meeting minutes, Accounts Payable and Water Adjustments were approved.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

During Open Forum, the process for disconnecting water was discussed. After discussion, the council would like the issue moved to Old Business to allow for Mayor Paul Dean to be included in discussion.

Clerk Alice Grimm presented the Clerk and Treasurer Reports. Grimm also presented the council with the April timesheets and amended work hours for project 037 KA-7617-01. The council agreed on the new estimated hours at 726.

The council discussed the property at 801 S. 3rd. Grimm told the council that she was sending out a courtesy letter for the junk and inoperable vehicles. Council member Evan Casey asked Grimm to also include the untagged cars behind the owner’s other property at 1208 S.W. Blvd. The council approved to give a 30day extension for clean-up to the owner of 319 S.W. Blvd. If the property is not cleaned up by June 6, the issue will go straight to court.

During council reports, the property at 325 S. 5th was discussed. The council tabled this item. Also discussed was the structure being torn down by Leiser Construction on Garfield Street. Grimm stated she was told that Kansas Gas was behind and the ground has been too muddy.

The council next discussed the property at 111 W. Garfield. It was noted that the owner had been to court and was asked to board up the windows and any open spaces to keep animals out. The owners expressed their interest in working on the structure. The council agreed to re-visit the issue later if progress has not been made.

Megawatts Electric LLC has completed work at the campgrounds, installed a 220 watt plug at the pool and will be working on the old water plant. Faran Watts, owner of Megawatts Electric LLC, expressed interest in working on the generators.

Discussion was held regarding the pool, lifeguards, a pump issue at the sewage transfer pump, fire pit at the lake, and a pump at the water plant that went out but is now fixed.

The council also discussed the sewer lines on Grant and McKinley Streets, potholes, the need for 15 steel doors and 12 steel frames, upcoming chip and seal projects, the marquee and floats for the docks at the lake.

A 10-minute executive session was held for personnel (no subject was given and it was not noted who was included in the executive session). After returning to open meeting, no decisions were made.

The council approved to purchase time clocks, one for City Hall and one for the Water Plant.

The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the Madison City Council will be held on June 16 at 7 p.m.
