Early this spring, Christ Lutheran Church (CLC) and Upper Fall River Church (UFR) officially installed Sue Ellen Wenthe as their new pastor. Pastor Wenthe now serves as the full-time Synod Authorized Minister for both congregations.
Originally from Lucas, Pastor Wenthe began her ministry by providing pulpit supply to churches in her home region. She later pursued formal studies to become a Parish Ministry Associate (PMA). She has been serving the Eureka area congregations since July of last year.
Pastor Wenthe and her husband, Lawrence, have lived in Lucas throughout their 43 years of marriage. They have one daughter, Dr. Katy Hahn, a pharmacologist, who lives in Andover with her husband and five children.
“I feel very blessed to have been called to care for these two congregations in such beautiful surroundings of the Flint Hills,” stated Pastor Wenthe. Since arriving in the area, Pastor Wenthe has become involved in local community outreach, including service with Community LinC and participation in the Greenwood County Ministerial Alliance.
Pastor Wenthe expressed appreciation for the welcome she and her husband have received and noted the beauty of the Flint Hills and the friendliness of the local residents.
Pastor Wenthe leads services on Sundays at UFR at 8:30 a.m. and at CLC at 10:30 a.m. On the first and third Wednesdays in June, at 6:30 p.m., she will also lead a service at CLC.
Once a month, during the summer, the CLC service will move to Eureka City Park for summer contemporary services. The first summer contemporary service will be held Sunday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend the services.
