Eureka To Be Represented By 12 Student-Athletes In 10 Events At 2A State Track & Field

A total of 12 Eureka Tornado student athletes will represent Eureka at the 2A State Track & Field meet at Wichita State University this Friday and Saturday, May 30 and 31.

Among the 10 events the Tornadoes qualified in, Eureka claimed six regional champions and four runner- up finishes. The Lady Tornadoes placed second as a team and were presented a plaque. The boys just missed out on team hardware, placing third at the home 2A Regional last Thursday, May 22. The Tornadoes also set new school records in the girls’ 800M and the 4x400M Relay.

Eureka’s TJ Mills and Rose Buck, both juniors and senior Olivia Valentine will make their third state track and field appearance; while juniors Peyton Hare and Britta Mongeau and senior Kalim Mouer will be making their second state appearance. Joining them for their first state appearance are seniors Kimber Ptacek, Jace Hardenbrook and Laken Valentine; juniors Brooklyn Ogden and Lydia Mason; and sophomore Maela Neill.

A special send-off is slated for this Thursday, May 29, TBD. The Tornadoes will leave from the Tornado Activity Center, at Eureka Junior/Senior High School and travel down 7th and Main Streets before turning west on River Street to head to Wichita State University for the state event.

Mills qualified in the 100M, 200M and the 4x100M Relay. Last year, he claimed the state championship title in the 200M, with a time of 22.78 and 3rd in the 100M, with a time of 10.94. During his freshman year, he competed at the state contest in the 4x100M Relay where the relay team placed fifth at 3A State. He placed third in the 100M.

Buck qualified in the 800M, 1600M and the 4x400M Relay. Last year, she qualified in the 800M. During her freshman year, she placed fourth in the 1600M and third in the 3200M at 3A State.

O. Valentine qualified in the 100M, 4x100M Relay and 4x400M Relay. During her sophomore and freshman years, she qualified in the 4x100M Relay. She was a member of the 3A State Runner-Up team her freshman year and third place team her sophomore year.

Mongeau qualified in the 800M, 1600M and the 4x400M Relay. Last year, she competed in the 1600M.

Hare qualified in the 200M, 400M and 4x100M Relay. Last year, he competed in the 400M.

Mouer qualifed in the 4x100M Relay. During his sophomore year, he competed at state in the 4x100M Relay and the team placed fifth.

Hardenbrook qualified in the discus.

L. Valentine qualified in the 4x100M Relay.

Mason qualified in the 4x400M Relay.

Ogden qualified in the 100M and 4x100M Relay.

Neill qualified in the 4x100M Relay.

DISCUS: Harlie Owings, 8th, 84-8. SHOT PUT: Harlie Owings, 9th, 31-1. The Lady Tornadoes tallied 72 points and were named the 2A Regional Runner-Up, out of 16 teams. Remington was first with 96 points and Lyndon was third with 63.

BOYS

400 METER DASH: Peyton Hare*, 1st, 51.40. 300 METER HURDLES: Luc Guillaume, 4th, 44.57. DISCUS: Jace Hardenbrook*, 3rd, 116-8. JAVELIN: Nate Clark, 11th, 109-8. SHOT PUT: Jace Hardenbrook, 5th, 38-7.The Tornado boys tallied 57 points and placed third, out of 16 teams. Central Heights was first with 119 points and Lyndon was second with 64.
