Rockin’ Robin!

Do you ever feel like a failure? I felt it hard last week. As “dreadline” hit last Monday night, I realized I failed to include Memorial Day information. It wasn’t that I forgot, but rather had it slated for this week’s edition; which as you know was made available on Tuesday or after the Monday holiday.

I know I am not alone, as most of us, at some point, feel this way after goals aren’t met, mistakes add up or we simply fall short of expectations we have set for ourselves. There are times that I struggle to overpower this feeling; but, I know that feeling like a failure doesn’t make you one.

Too many times we forget the road to success wasn’t a paved path. J.K. Rowling faced rejection, Steve Jobs was fired from Apple, and Oprah was told she wasn’t fit for TV. Failure isn’t a dead end—it’s part of the path.

Our struggles add more character. They build resilience, perspective and hopefully we learn a lesson as we move forward.

We will constantly stumble along the way but what matters is that we get up, adjust and keep forging ahead. Failure is just a page in the book, maybe even a chapter; but, it isn’t the whole story.

Remember to always stay humble and kind. We aren’t sure when others might be experiencing a failure. A simple smile or a kind phrase could truly help that individual pull themselves from the slump. To the kind lady that was simply waiting for the papers to be delivered to the grocery store last week, THANK YOU. You sharing your love for the paper with me turned my entire week around. I believe that you crossed my path to simply remind me that although the frustrations might be heavy, failure isn’t something we can avoid - however, it is something we can grow through.

Fail again. Fail better.”~ Samuel Beckett
