The oldest board game is believed to have originated in the Middle East. It was discovered at the Royal Cemetery of the Sumerian city of Ur in 1928 by a British archaeologist. Highly decorated boards made of wood and inlaid shell and lapis lazuli were found and believed to be made between 2,600 and 2,400 B.C. The game was dubbed the Royal Game of Ur since its original name wasn’t known.
