Evelyn Hudson

Evelyn Loretta Hudson of Eureka, died on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka, at the age of 101.

She was born on December 1, 1923, in Eureka, the daughter of Lionel Ned and Emma Loretta (Evenson) Walford. She was raised in Eureka and attended local schools. Growing up in a close-knit community, Evelyn developed strong ties to her hometown and cherished the friendships she made during her school years.

On January 1, 1942, Evelyn was united in marriage to Oscar Earl Hudson in Eureka. To this union, two sons, Derald and Larry, were born. Evelyn and Oscar built a life together in Eureka, where they raised their family. Oscar preceded her in death on October 30, 2014. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership.

Evelyn was a nurse’s aide at Greenwood County Hospital for many years. She dedicated herself to caring for others with compassion and skill. Her work at the hospital was not just a job, but a calling, and she touched the lives of many patients and their families throughout her career.

She is survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will cherish her memory and the love she shared with them. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Derald Hudson and Larry Hudson; brother, Oscar Walford; and one grandson, Ed Hudson.

Visitation hours were set from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka. Cremation has been effected. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date with inurnment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Eureka Nursing Center. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online, at koupfunerals.com.
