The Greenwood County Commission held a short routine meeting on Monday, May 19, where they approved personnel matters, approved a tower permit and held executive sessions for legal and personnel matters. During the Road and Bridge report, Supervisor Allen Greenwood shared that Joey Caylor had completed training and earned two additional certifications. Greenwood asked for Caylor’s wage to be changed from $16.50 to $18.50/hour. The commission also approved to hire Randy Knight as the interim Noxious Weed Director, effective May 27, at an hourly rate of $24, as Candice Baxter had submitted a letter of resignation. Greenwood also publicly commended his staff for their dedication/work, as he was out last week due to a family illness.
Attention was also drawn to a long-standing bridge issue near 100 and U Road, which has been out of use since October 2018. An environmentalist is expected to inspect the bridge for bats in the coming weeks, which will be at the county’s expense. This requirement was imposed by the state and must be completed before the project can continue.
The commission held a 10-minute executive session with Counselor Paul Dean, which was followed by an executive session for personnel matters with Jayme Lewis, Greenwood County Health Director and Dean, totaling 15 minutes and a legal session with Lewis and Dean for 5-minutes. After returning to open session, the commission approved a motion that will allow salaried employees to no longer keep a time sheet. The motion passed 4-1, with commissioner Preston Evenson voting no.
The May meeting minutes and the special payables, totaling $1,522.77, were approved as presented.
The next regular Commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, at 9 a.m.
