Eureka senior Tanner Biering claimed a career milestone on Monday, May 5, collecting his 100th career strikeout during a road match-up against the Red Devils of Erie.
Biering began pitching for the Tornadoes late in his freshman season and was unable to pitch during the majority of his junior season due to a hand injury, yet worked hard to accomplish this career milestone.
Despite the achievement, the Tornado baseball team dropped both games of the doubleheader. In the first, they fell 3-11 after Erie broke things open with a six-run fifth inning. Ethan Bauer tripled in a run to open scoring for Eureka, while Tristan Milner and Bauer each tallied two hits. Dalton Pool struck out four in the start.
In game two, the Tornadoes out-hit Erie 8-6 but came up short again, losing 3-8. Milner, Bauer, and Kaleb Hollis each had two hits. Biering struck out nine over four innings to surpass the 100 âKâ mark.
Eureka was slated to host Fredonia on Monday of this week to conclude regular season play. They will face West Elk in a play-in game for the 2-1A Dexter Regional this Friday, May 16, 25 minutes following the first game, which is slated to begin at 2 p.m., in Sedan.
