Despite strong offensive showings, including a home run by freshman Arabella Shepherd, the Tornado softball team came up short in both games of a doubleheader against Erie on Monday, May 5.
In game two, Shepherd delivered a standout moment with a solo shot to center field in the top of the fourth, part of a 4-14 loss that saw Eureka out-hit Erie 9-6. Madelyn Miller continued her strong season, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, while Laynie Winfrey added two hits and an RBI.
The Tornadoes opened the scoring in the first inning of both games but couldn’t hold back late surges from Erie. Game one ended 1-16, despite Eureka matching Erie in hits, with Miller leading the team with two.
Eureka looks to compete in the 2-1A Rosalia-Flinthills Regional, May 19-22.
