Eureka High School’s Peyton Hare continues to turn heads on the track, shattering a decades-old school record in the 200-meter dash—not once, but twice in one week.
At the El Dorado Invitational on May 2, Hare clocked in at 22.27 seconds to place second and break the previous Eureka record of 22.40, which had been jointly held by Paul Hake (Class of 1982) and Jim Dochow (Class of 1952).
Just days later, Hare lowered his own mark again with a blazing 21.99-second finish at a meet in Humboldt on Thursday, May 8.
Hare, a junior, is now the fastest 200-meter sprinter in Eureka history and a rising star to watch as the season continues.
Eureka will travel to Neodesha on Thursday, May 15 for the Tri-Valley League meet, beginning at 3 p.m. and then will host 2A Regional Track on Thursday, May 22.
Additional details from the meets Eureka attended recently can be found on page 11 of this week’s edition. (Courtesy photo)
