What a beautiful weekend we had. You couldn’t help but want to get outside and do something, anything. I got all of our yard mowed. Parts of it hadn’t been mowed yet this year due to numerous limbs down in the yard. While I was mowing I couldn’t help but notice that a lot of the grass had gone to seed, so I was seeding the lawn while mowing.

It took awhile to mow as tall and thick as parts of it was, but now it is done. Until later this week. I really enjoy mowing, always have. It’s a great way to relax and clear your mind of bad thoughts and just enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

Who is the only woman in history, thus far, to have received the Medal of Honor?

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers. Wade is still in the Iola hospital getting his strength built up.

We offer our sympathy to all who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.

Farmer’s Market’s are going strong in all the surrounding towns. I’m ready to find some asparagus and other goodies. I planted three tomato plants and something promptly ate one of them. Guess I have to get another plant.

Congrats to all who graduated this past weekend or will be in coming weeks. This past weekend was busy, busy, busy. Graduations everywhere, Mother’s Day and working in yards. The area was bustling with activity.

We hope all women had a Happy Mother’s Day. The weather was perfect for all kinds of activities.

Answer: Mary Edwards Walker is that woman. As a surgeon, women’s rights advocate, abolitionist, and spy, Walker became the first female U.S. Army surgeon during the Civil War. During her work as a surgeon in the war, Walker often crossed battle lines to care for soldiers and civilians. In April of 1864, Walker had just finished helping a Confederate doctor with a surgery when she was captured by Confederate troops as a spy. She was held as a prisoner of war for four months. While imprisoned, she refused to wear the women’s clothes provided to her. She wore men’s clothes her entire life because they were more comfortable and hygienic. She even wore pants under her skirt at her wedding. Walker was released from prison in August of 1864 and became the assistant surgeon of the Ohio 52nd Infantry a month later. After the war, Walker was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Andrew Johnson.

I couldn’t help but chuckle when I read that Walker wore pants under her wedding dress. Sounds like something I would do.

I was reading in a news email that a Slovakian engineer has successfully designed a flying car and has racked up over 170 hours of flying time. Can our childhood dream of flying cars soon become a reality for all?

I doubt that many of us will ever see them as mainstream, but we might actually get to see some. The price of one will be astronomically high.

You can definitely see progress being made on Cedar Creek bridge which is great. Now, if only, the lights worked a little bit better. Two times I have pulled up to the north light right after it turned red and watched traffic come from the south and then when it should have turned green for the north side, traffic starts going again from the south.

A 3-5 minute wait is one thing, but to sit there for 9-10 minutes gets aggravating. You don’t dare drive thru the red light as it’s not only illegal, but it’s a work zone and if you get caught he fine is doubled! Waiting several minutes is much better than a $400+ ticket!

I just keep telling myself, this time next year this bridge construction will just be a memory! I hope anyway.
