Gulick & Wunderlich Placed Second At Louisiana ASA Shoot

Eight area archers traveled to Minden, La. over the weekend for an Archery Shooter’s Association (ASA) shoot, where two local freshmen claimed second place honors.

The contest included a three-day archery shoot where competitors competed in two-rounds of a 20-target shoot, spanning Friday-Sunday, April 2527. A team shoot was also held on Thursday, April 24.

Brad Boulanger, Jeremy Wharton and Camden Wunderlich competed in the team shoot, where Wunderlich’s team claimed second place. The teams are randomly drawn from those competing in the team shoot.

Over the next two days, Boulanger, Wharton and Wunderlich, along with Curtis and Donna Geary, Matthew Barnhardt, Clint Behrens and Chason Gulick, participated in the two-day shoot.

Gulick and Wunderlich each claimed hardware at the event, as they finished in second place in their divisions.

Gulick shot a 375, with 5 12s during the shoot in the Young Adult Pins Male division, to place second. He is a freshman at Gulick Academy, and is the son of Chad and Kelli Gulick of Piedmont.

Wunderlich shot a 400, with 5 12s, in the Youth Pins Boys division, tying for second place. (Ties are broken by the number of 12s shot. Both boys had 5 12s and the tie remained). Wunderlich is a freshman at Eureka Junior/Senior High School, and is the son of Wes and Robin Wunderlich of Eureka.

Other scores were as follows (total score/# of 12s): Senior Pins: Boulanger (382/9), Behrens (364/4), and C. Geary (363/7); Mens Pins 40: Barnhardt (402/8); Known 40: Wharton (418/16); Womens Senior Known: D. Geary (368/6).

The archers above, among others from the area, will continue to travel to ASA Pro/Am tournaments this year, as well as Kansas ASA State qualifying tournaments. The Kansas ASA State Shoot will be held at Eureka Archery Club, July 12-13.

About the ASA Pro/Am Tour The ASA Pro/Am Tour is a national series of Pro/ Am tournaments, plus the Championship “Classic” which are recognized as the best run, highest paying and most exciting events in 3-D archery. Competitors pay entry fees based on their competitive division in both pro and amateur classes, and they receive cash awards, trophies, and accumulate points toward the prestigious “Shooter of the Year” award in their class. In addition to providing world class competition, each ASA Pro/Am provides the Host community and surrounding area with an economic impact of well over $1,000,000, as each event attracts thousands of archers, sponsors, family members and spectators.
