Laynie Winfrey Signs with Neosho Community College Basketball For Eureka Tornado senior Laynie Winfrey, the dream to play collegiate basketball began at the young age of 3.
“I’ve had the dream since I was a little kid and I’m so excited to achieve it,” she stated.
Winfrey signed to continue her academic and athletic journey with Neosho Community College (NCC), where she will proudly wear the black and orange of the Panthers.
When asked what stood out about NCC, Winfrey said, “The environment and the love that they all have for one another.” She continued, “Everyone supports everyone!!” Basketball has always been more than just a game for Winfrey. It’s the competition that fuels her passion. “It’s so competitive and so fun at the same time,” she said.
Winfrey plans to major in Sports Management with aspirations of going into coaching someday. “I want to stay around the game I love and help others find their own path through it,” she added.
In two years, Winfrey hopes to graduate from NCC and transfer to a Division I university to continue competing at the highest level. In five years, she noted that she will “Hopefully still be in the game, whether that’s playing or coaching—but definitely growing and thriving.”
Winfrey is the daughter of Rob and Lindsay Winfrey of Eureka and Wichita. She is the granddaughter of Darla and Roger Winfrey of Eureka and Nikki and Alan Geier of Wichita.
