Is it Spring or is it still winter?! My allergies say it’s Spring, but the thermometer says it’s still Winter!
What famous poet read a poem at John F. Kennedy’s inauguration?
Hello to all in area nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.
We offer our sympathy to all who lost loved ones this past week. May they rest in peace.
Easter is this coming Sunday which means it’s time for egg hunts. And every community in the area is having one, some places more than one. The one here in Toronto is going to be at the ball diamond east of town on Point Road.
I saw a neat video online about coloring eggs. This gal put a sponge in the bottom of the clean toilet bowl, carefully placed 18 eggs in the bowl, then dribbled four colors of food coloring over the eggs. She then sprinkled baking soda over the eggs, poured in some water, then some white vinegar and let it set and foam up for a bit then flushed the toilet. Then reached in with gloves and pulled out the eggs one by one. The eggs were colorful and pretty! Looked like the least messy way to color eggs. Wasn’t the full moon Saturday night pretty? It was kind of hazy in Wichita, but still pretty. I was in Wichita because Wade had a heart attack Friday night and was transferred from Iola hospital to Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. He is scheduled to have open heart surgery Thursday. Two arteries plus the widow maker artery are blocked.
The drive home Sunday through the Flint Hills is always a pretty drive no matter the time of year. I couldn’t help but notice that many of the pastures on the south side of Highway 54 had been burned off, but not many yet on the north side.
I know it’s because they just hadn’t got to that side yet, but it was kind of cool looking out across the open spaces, rolling down the hills and to the right black and green, and to the left dead grass. Big contrast. In a couple of weeks the drive will be really pretty with the new green grass growing.
Answer: Robert Frost. JFK asked him to recite the poem “The Gift Outright” unless he wanted to write a new one. Frost wrote a new poem “Dedication” for the event, but between the sun’s glare and the wind blowing so hard he was unable to read what he had written. So he reverted to “The Gift Outright” as he knew it by heart.
My mind just drew a complete blank! I guess I’m done writing for this week.
Have a happy, fun Easter weekend. Hopefully the weather will be nice for all the outdoor activities planned.
