The regular meeting of the Susannah French Putney Chapter of DAR was held March 21, at the Eureka Public Library in Eureka. Regent Teresa Bachman and Secretary Carla Cook were both present.
The ladies met for lunch at the United Methodist Church where lunch was served by the United Women of Faith. The meal blessing was given by Chaplain Ann Wimberly.
Following lunch, the group went to the Eureka Public Library for a short meeting and a tour of the library.
The Invocation was given by Chaplain Ann Wimberly. The Preamble to the Constitution, the DAR Ritual, and Pledge of Allegiance were recited. The group joined together and sang The Star-Spangled Banner.
The February minutes were approved as was the treasurer’s report with a Feb. 28, balance of $5,152.89. Remember $1,300 of that total is from Cindy Van Buren’s memorial gift to the chapter.
Correspondence was read from Faith Butler and Hazel Russell expressing appreciation to the group for the delivery of Valentine treat boxes last month.
Treasurer Kay Catlin discussed upcoming fundraising events. Members were encouraged to update their Service to America volunteer hours as they complete them.
Refer to Regent Bachman’s earlier email about donations for the children of military personnel at Ft. Leavenworth. At the state meeting in early April, they will be creating bags of snacks and activities.
Also, donations are being taken for the women and children at the El Dorado Women’s Shelter. Those can be given to Regent Bachman.
On April 18 and 19, 1775 Paul Revere made his famous ride. Regent Bachman is working on a plan to celebrate that event. Contact her if you can help.
Members are encouraged to take the “New Member’s Course” which will be beginning soon. If you have completed that course, you are eligible to take the “Committee Leader’s Course.” Also available is the “New Horizons” course. All will be starting soon. Check with Regent Bachman or the KSDAR website.
The new “Sunshine Committee” still needs members and ideas.
Those wanting a gravestone DAR medallion were asked to let Regent Bachman know, as she will be sending a group order in the near future. All paperwork will be done by the chapter.
Head Librarian of the Eureka Public Library and SFP member Connie Mitchell presented us with some historical information about the original, historic Carnegie Library. She also gave the group a history of how the new library came into existence. A tour of the “new” library followed.
Members present: Bachman, Kay Catlin, Carla Cook, Sigrid Denchfield, Janet Green, Jean Groendes, Loria Howard, Deb Keplar, Connie Mitchell, Rise Russin, Nita Whiteman and Ann Wimberly. One guest, Linda Pope, Pastor of the United Methodist Church in Eureka and Hamilton joined the group at the library.
The next meeting will be on the fourth Friday, April 25, at Butler County Historical Society, in El Dorado.
