Darn fickle Kansas weather! I hope the cold weather that came in overnight Sunday didn’t hurt gardens or fruit trees. It’s supposed to be spring not winter. The end of this week looks much better in the forecast with temps in the 70s.
Which former president of the United States loved to prank people with his “Amphicar?”
Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.
We offer our sympathy to the family of Peggy Conway. We offer our sympathy to all others who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.
We are definitely getting April showers and many flowers are already in bloom. I don’t know what flowers the old saying is referring to, but the many colors of flowers in bloom right now as well as lawns turning green. Is there any green more beautiful than the wheat fields at this time of year?
Answer: LBJ, Lyndon B. Johnson had a Lagoon Blue model of the only mass-produced civilian amphibious vehicle and he would take unsuspecting people for a ride and drive down a hill towards the lake and shout, “Oh no, the brakes have failed.”
I remember my dad talking about someone out at Toronto Point, many years ago, having an amphicar and went driving down the main road into the park and kept going straight into the water as people stood around with their mouths agape!
I never saw one, but did see a guy driving a “tierra tiger” A vehicle with eight wheels, I believe, drive off into the lake! I always thought it would be cool to have one of them or an amphicar.
Does anyone know where a person can get some milkweed seeds? I would like to plant some for the butterflies and bees. I found a place online, but you have to buy at least a half-pound of seed and I don’t need that much. The ad said that much will plant 1/4 of an acre!
I guess I can always go country road cruising and dig some up out of ditches.
I don’t know how much rain we have gotten, but I’m thankful we didn’t get the huge amounts of rain that fell in Arkansas. Saw video, on the news, of the flooded farm grounds that made it look like a giant lake. Brought back memories of the many times it has flooded around here like in, I believe it was ‘86 and again in ‘07. I’m sure there were other years, but those two really stick out in my mind. We don’t need that much rain.
Easter is coming up on April 20 and I saw a video the other day that suggested making eggs out of peanut butter and a hard candy shell that could be then “painted” with different colors of frosting instead of using real eggs this year.
The reason is that eggs are so expensive and rather than waste them by coloring them, make peanut butter ones instead. My first thought was ‘waste? What do they mean waste?’ Then it was said that since eggs that are dyed are not safe to eat and are thrown away. I thought to myself, we didn’t throw away eggs that had been dyed, we ate them. Did you eat or throw away dyed eggs?
