Howard City Council

The Howard City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the March 3 meeting, which were approved during their most recent meeting on March 17.

Mayor Richard Clark called the meeting to order with Council members Martin Hunter, Shilo Crupper, Derek Cookson, Jerrad Pope and Gary Harrod present. Also present was City Clerk Joanna Hunter.

It was noted that the meeting scheduled for Feb. 19, was canceled due to the weather.

The council approved the Feb. 3 meeting minutes; and the payment of city bills, totaling $64,076.54.

The council accepted the request from Stronger Together Community Fitness Fund to be a fiscal agent to disburse funds from the Community Foundation.

Kevin Mitchell was appointed as the voting delegate and Clay Hunter was named as an alternate for the KRWA meeting in March.

A non-refundable fee for an application to sell fireworks in the City of Howard was set and approved at $25.

The council approved sending the Cox generator transfer switch control board to Flight Systems Inc. to be rebuilt and add a surge protector.

Other discussion included: Electric at dam pump station; Code Compliance in regards to derelict houses and researching ideas for funds to accomplish some demolitions; LKM legislative alert regarding budgeting; KMGA note that Federal court case on Storm Uri was dismissed; PWWSD#23; Property evaluations for the City; New software change has caused bill printing to be delayed and the council agreed with City Clerk to postpone the bill due date/ late fee for this month; Checking sidewalk slope in front of Cox east door near steps; Driving and parking prohibited in the city parks; Curbing on Wabash needs addressed, City employees will get measurements and request estimate for specific locations and Clerk will keep in contact with business owners if/when projects are scheduled to give them the opportunity to schedule sidewalk work at the same time.

The meeting adjourned at 8:03 p.m.

The next Howard City Council meeting will be held on Monday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
