Volunteer Firefighters Worked Tirelessly In Catastrophic Weather Conditions

Volunteer Firefighters Worked Tirelessly In Catastrophic Weather Conditions
Grass Fires Kept Crews Busy Throughout Day Last Friday

With knowing catastrophic weather conditions were in the forecast late last week, local volunteer firefighters worked together to protect county property.

A total of five grass fires and two structure fires were reported in Greenwood County, last Friday, March 14.

“These volunteers were ready to go and gave it all they had when the pager went off. I could not be more proud of them,” stated County Fire Chief Glen Collinge. “They prevented several large scale incidents. The night before almost all departments were checking on and securing previous burns. Those actions absolutely prevented more wildfires on Friday,” continued Collinge.

Crews also assisted neighboring counties when able.
