Eureka Music Club

- submitted by Jean Edwards and Margaret Spires The March meeting of the Eureka Music Club was held at the Christ Lutheran Church on Monday, March 10, with 12 members and one guest, Christine McKee, attending. Jean Edwards and Margaret Spires were program chairmen with the theme of “Favorite Irish Songs.” A business meeting was held with Edwards in charge. She opened with the poem “An Irish Blessing.”

The program began with Spires sharing the history of Ireland and their Irish music and three famous poets and musicians, Thomas Moore, Chauncey Olcott and Ernest Ball. The first performer was Pat Surber who sang “Danny Boy” accompanied by Edwards. Edwards followed with a piano solo, “How Are Things in Glocca Morro”, a piano solo was given by Marla DeGraffenreid, “Galway Bay.” Grace Stacy performed an “Irish Medley” on the piano: Joyce Saunders and Leanne McKee sang a duet of “My Wild Irish Rose” accompanied by Spires; Rise Russin played for the group to sing along of “ When Irish Eyes are Smiling;” Robin Himes shared a piano solo of “Believe Me of all Those Endearing Young Charms;” Spires played a piano solo of “Mother Machree.” The program closed with Marilyn Seymour playing “Be Thou My Vision.”

In keeping of the Irish theme, refreshments of Irish Soda Bread and real Irish Butter were served by the hostesses Stacy and DeGraffenreid.
