Claimed Third Place At 3-1A State Wrestling Tournament
Lady Tornado Harlie Owings

Eureka junior Harlie Owings claimed her first state medal over the weekend, claiming third place at the 3-1A State Wrestling tournament in Hays.

Owings’ sole loss at the state tournament was to the state champion in the 170 pound weight class, in the semifinals. Owings then battled her way up the backside and claimed a third place medal, the best in school history. She completed the season with a 37-9 record for the year. This was her first state appearance.

Owings becomes the second Lady Tornado to claim state hardware. Lady Tornado Lyndsey Escareno claimed four state medals, two fourth (junior year, 140; and sophomore year, 143) and two sixth (senior year, 140; and freshman year, 143).

Also representing Eureka at the 3-1A State Wrestling Tournament was sophomore Maela Neill (125) and freshman Killian Harrington (285), who also made their first state appearances.

Additional details, including photos, from this year’s state wrestling tournaments can be found elsewhere in this week’s edition.
