Shortly after adjourning their regular weekly meeting on Monday, March 3, the Greenwood County Commissioners held a special meeting to discuss a safety issue on a township road.
County Counselor Paul Dean shared pictures of the Twin Grove Township road located in the 1900 block of 40th Street (east of V Road) that showed two holes in the road. The holes, approximately 12.8 feet apart, were marked with a post and stick coming through them. In order to not delay in the repairing of the road, the county held a special meeting to approve Road and Bridge to move forward with the repairs, with the county billing the township for the work.

It was also noted that the previous commission had referenced taking over ownership of the road; however, a resolution hadn’t been formally adopted. Therefore, the road is still a township road.
During their regular meeting, the county approved to name current county employee Candice Baxter as the interim Noxious Weed Director. Road and Bridge Supervisor Allen Greenwood shared that the Short’s Bridge, located at 225th Street and U Road was near 85.5% complete and is expected to be complete in April. It was also shared that no additional RSVPs had been received and the annual township meeting was cancelled.
The commissioner approved paying an additional $1,080 to Ramsey Concrete LLC for additives due to cold weather for the fire training pad that was previously approved.
Commissioner Judd Everitt shared that the Greenwood County Hospital Board of Trustees recently met and accepted the resignation of Leslie Spillman from the board. The board suggested Christina Harrison fill the vacant seat, which was approved.
It was shared that a Kansas County Commissions Association will be hosting a conference in Manhattan on April 2224. Commissioner Preston Evenson plans to attend.
Two executive sessions for legal matters, totaling 30 minutes, were held with Counselor Dean, Emergency Management Director Levi Vinson and Road and Bridge Supervisor Greenwood. No action was taken following either session.
The commission reviewed the treasurer’s report and fee report for January 2025. The special payables, totaling $1,188.40; payables as of March 7, totaling $155,209.54 and payroll for March 7, totaling $160,483.49 were all approved as presented.
