Hope you all are ready for Daylight Saving Time. It’s coming this Sunday whether you like it or not. My feelings are mixed as to whether we should nix this or not. Many people love it, many hate it. Which one are you?
Spring is definitely in the air and all around us. Trees are starting to bud, crocus are popping up, mosquitoes are out as are bees and I heard several people mention over the weekend that they had seen a robin or two. I haven’t seen any turkey buzzards though, they wait until winter is over so they can smell carrion rotting.
But don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched as Easter isn’t until April 20! Way later than usual. Late Easter usually means winter lasts longer. Fat Tuesday was, well, Tuesday and Lent kicked off Wednesday March 5.
What were the first words spoken in a “talkie?”
Toronto has been a busy place this past week. KDOT employees were in town patching potholes on Main Street and on Stockton going north out of town. A crew has been busy at the Gym. The old bathrooms and locker rooms were torn down to make way for new bathrooms to be built.
Time to start getting gardens ready. Potatoes should be in the ground by the 17th of this month.
Answer: First of all a “talkie” is what movies were called in the early days of film with sound. The first words were “Wait a minute, wait a minute. You ain’t heard nothin’ yet.” spoken by Al Jolson in “The Jazz Singer.”
It was a decent day Saturday, so I don’t know if that was considered a lamb or a lion! If it gets no colder the rest of winter than what it was Saturday, that would be great. We’ll see.
